Welcome to The Zoie Foundation The root meaning of the name Zoie is life. This foundation and its work is for Zoie, and for the thousands of children who deserve a safer childhood. The Zoie Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to tackle the lesser-known dangers which threaten the lives of children and devastate families. Most parents are keenly aware of product recalls, the safety concerns of cribs, car seats, blinds, electrical outlets and other commonly-discussed dangers. The Zoie Foundation is committed to raising the awareness of the not-talked-about dangers, and to effecting change one child-safety issue at a time. It Starts with Zoie (pictures) Two-and-a-half-year-old Zoie Gates died November 3, 2001 when she leaned out the back seat window of a parked Ford F-250 pick-up to play with a dog. Zoie knelt on the power-window's up switch, and it thrust upward, carrying Zoie with it. Although Zoie's dad was just a few feet from the truck, the force of the window gave time no opportunity to save Zoie. Since that mournful day, Jay and Britt Gates have learned about the devastating toll power windows have had on children and their families. (full story) This Web site is designed to inform, educate and empower its visitors, as well as to serve as an information-sharing resource.
